Sparks thumped by Hearts

The Auckland Hearts made light work of the Otago Sparks in the one-day Action Cricket Cup.

Chasing just 103 to win, Auckland cruised to victory with eight wickets in hand.

The Hearts decided to bowl first At Melville Park in Auckland with Otago avoiding the early danger and settting a nice platform with 19 unbeaten runs.

Unfortunately for the Sparks it would be their second largest partnership of the innings.

Opener Katie Martin top scored with 26, but couldn’t find enough support to post a big total.

The southerners lost wickets far too regularly and were lucky to finish with 103 on the board, the only other real contributor being Natasha Miles who struck 20 as they were bundled out in just the 30th over.

Georgia Guy had an incredible spell with the ball for the Hearts, bowling three overs and picked up three wickets.

In ,Auckland never looked in doubt. Holly Huddleston went cheaply for five, but only lost one more wicket on the way to a rollicking win.

West Indian import Stephanie Taylor (36*) and Maddie Green (30*) finished it off for the home team in the 25th over.

For the Sparks, none of the bowlers had great days, but Tanya Morrison was the most economical, her eight overs going for 18.
