New Plymouth Boys’ High School won their first toss of the tournament and sent John McGlashan College into bat on day one at the NZCT Junior School Boys’ tournament.

John McGlashan batted well in difficult conditions early on and Tom Dempster spearheaded the innings with a knock of 48 runs, while Jordan Gard bowled well for New Plymouth BHS picking up three for 31.

Chasing 134/8, New Plymouth BHS lost regular wickets at both ends of the pitch and couldn’t establish a healthy partnership — until a last wicket stand by Chris Logan(14 runs) and Jason McGrath (12 runs) bumped their total to 93.

New Plymouth BHS still fell 41 runs short of their target, meaning John McGlashan could celebrate their first win of the tournament, with thanks to tight bowling by Daniel Thorn and Ben Hatton who both picked up two for 12.
