Some of New Zealand’s rising domestic talent will get an opportunity to take on the West Indies in a two-day warm-up match at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln University, starting on Wednesday 26 November.
A typically youthful squad has been selected based on availabilities from the six Major Associations and presents a great opportunity to expose some of New Zealand’s up-and-coming players to International opposition.
Canterbury’s Leo Carter will captain the side, with BLACKCAP Muhammad Abbas also featuring as a batter only, as he continues his rehabilitation from a recent rib injury.
BLACKCAPS Selection Manager Gavin Larsen said the two-day match was a great opportunity.
“The young players in this NZXI squad have the potential to go a long way in the game,” he said.
“For these players to have the chance to play against the West Indies Test side will provide them with a superb playing experience.
“Playing against international opposition is always a great opportunity for players to benchmark themselves and test their skills at the top level.”
The New Zealand XI will play their full 13 players over the two days, with the West Indies expected to use most of their Test Squad.
