Will The Ford Trophy lead change hands (again) tomorrow?

All The Ford Trophy squads are in for Round Five in Rangiora, Wellington and Mount Maunganui, with all eyes on the big top-of-the table clash between Canterbury and the Central Stags.

The two potent, unchanged sides are level on 14 points after a successful fourth round and now all the teams head into the last one-dayer this side of Christmas looking to get as high on the table as they can - to get in pole for the business half of the comp in February next year.

The Wellington Firebirds in third spot closely follow the Canterbury and the Stags, and have also been on a winning streak with good momentum since their opening round loss.

They head into their own, big home match against former frontrunner the Auckland Aces at the Basin tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Firebirds have won those last three games on the bounce despite missing a raft of valuable injured players, including Logan van Beek and BLACKCAPS Adam Milne, Mo Abbas and Ben Sears.

After this crunch fifth round, The Ford Trophy takes its annual midseason intermission as the six teams put down the white ball and swap it for the red one of the Plunket Shield championship, with the first-class four-dayers starting next week.
