New Zealand Cricket is saddened to learn of the passing of Dave Kinsella, a Central Districts stalwart who served the game as a player, administrator, and international umpire.

Born in Taranaki, Kinsella made his first-class debut for Central Districts as a fast bowler in 1961, going on to claim 72 wickets from 28 matches at an average of 23.

He also enjoyed a lengthy district career, playing in five Hawke Cup challenges while representing Taranaki, Manawatu, and Nelson.

Kinsella turned to umpiring following his playing career and stood in six Tests and three ODIs in the early 1980s.

The Kinsella family name is synonymous in New Zealand cricket with wife Shirley a fellow cricketer and administrator, their daughter Penny a WHITE FERNS Test and ODI player, national selector and administrator, and son Roger a New Zealand indoor cricket representative.

New Zealand Cricket extends its deepest condolences to Penny, Roger, and the wider Kinsella family.
