Wellington captain Lucy Doolan had the highest individual score with 97* off 103 balls in their 10-wicket, bonus-point win over Auckland on the opening day of the Women's National Development Tournament at the New Zealand Cricket grounds at Lincoln University.
Auckland was dismissed for 148 with Sam Barriball top scoring with 32, with three wickets each for Laura Webster and Lucy Doolan.
Doolan and Penny Lewis combined to bring Wellington home to an easy victory in the 32nd over.
Northern and Central met at Lincoln No. 3, and ND amassed the highest score of the day with 233/6, thanks to a partnership of 168 for the fourth wicket between Holly Huddleston and Kirbie Samkin.
Huddleston scored 73 off 80 balls and Samkin 85 off 132 balls. CD chased well but finished 13 runs short.
Captain Andrea Stockwell scored 71 off 111 balls and Kelly Tunnicliffe 49 off 84 balls in a third wicket partnership of 127 runs.
For ND, Huddleston took 4/22 to have a fine double in the match and Natalie Edwards 4/42.
On the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, holders Canterbury narrowly defeated Otago by one wicket.
Otago won the toss and batted first and after a slow start reached 167/9 after 50 overs. A number of batsmen got starts - Andrea Bell 26, Jenna Innes 24, Alana Kane 20 and Delia Stammers 21, while Angela Woolley took 2/33.
In a close finish, Canterbury achieved victory with eight balls to spare.
Best of the Otago bowlers was Fay Tahere with 3/39 and for Canterbury there were useful contributions from Amy Rendel, Tabitha Watereus and Frances McKay.
