Women’s Development Tournament 2007: Day Three

Auckland claimed outright leadership of the Women's National Development Tournament after persistent morning rain delayed the start of play at Lincoln on day three of the.

When play finally got underway at 1.30pm matches, were reduced to 42 overs and Auckland, Central Districts and Northern Districts had wins.

In the top of the table clash at Lincoln Green between Canterbury and Auckland, Auckland made a positive start putting on 70 for the first wicket between Kelly Sutherland and Jussara Bierman. 

Katie Perkins then continued to bat aggressively scoring 48 off 55 balls.  Sam Barriball and Sarah Hopkins made useful contributions and Auckland finished with 217/7 after 42 overs. 

Canterbury lost wickets regularly. Aided by some fine fielding Auckland bowled Canterbury out for 152 in 34.5 overs. Sandee Hui took 3/34 off her 9 overs and Jessie Latimer took 3/26 off 5.5 overs.  Leigh Martin top scored with 30 off 44 balls.

On Lincoln No. 3, Northern Districts won the toss and elected to field against Wellington.  Sarah Bradbury continued her fine form with 60 off 88 balls and Wellington reached 200/8 off 42 overs. 

ND started positively with Natalie Dodd and Morna Neilson (59) putting on 87 for the first wicket.  Kirbie Samkin and Tamara Gould kept the chase going and ND won with 8 balls to spare.  Kerri Ann Tomlinson was 17 not out off 13 balls.  Jess Bennett, Renee Moffitt and Sarah Bradbury all took two wickets each.

Otago won the toss and fielded against CD, who were in early trouble, losing Penny Wiggins in the first over and Esther Lanser in the fourth.

A 53-run, third-wicket stand between Courtney Woodward and Sonya Thompson restored momentum, and Olivia Gregrory then added the innings’ top score of 43.

Brooke Sim scored a run-a-ball 23 not out to see CD finish with 204/9 off their 42 overs.  The most successful of the Otago bowlers was Kylie Griffiths with 3/31.

Otago’s reply was halted  was all out for 148 in 40.3 overs.  Krystina Frederic took 4/21, Sonya Thompson 3/24 and captain Shannon King top scored for Otago with 25.
