Windies rally late

Posted Monday, November 20, 2006 in International News

Two late wickets have helped the West Indies put a halt to a rampaging Pakistan at stumps on the first day of the second Test in Multan.

Heading into the match on the back of a victory last week in Lahore, the hosts looked set for another strong showing as Imran Farhat piled on a quick-fire 74.

After starting well, both Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf, though, were undone by some strong West Indian bowling, each for 56.

However, skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq, fresh from his International Cricket Council ban following August's Test debacle, remained defiantly out in the middle on 31 at the close of play with his side well-placed on 263-4.

Jerome Taylor was the pick of the Caribbean bowlers with 2-61 as the visitors were forced to chip away on a docile wicket.

After winning the toss, Inzamam, playing at his home ground, surprised no-one when he opted to bat first.

Shoaib Malik, who is currently on four not out, will join his skipper out in the middle when play resumes on day two.
