Tonight (NZ time) tradition will be thrown out when the White Ferns take on the English at Lord’s – in the form of a pink ball.
The White Ferns play their final ODI against the English at Lord’s in London, a ground well known for its rich history and tradition. When the two teams take to the hallowed turf they will be rid of the traditional white ODI ball in favour of a pink ball to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer care.
The White Ferns are already 3-1 down in the ODI series, but it won’t stop them being highly competitive at Lord’s and White Ferns batsman Sara McGlashan thinks the pink ball won’t hinder their chances of victory.
She said the team has a positive outlook when it comes to the pink ball. “We’ve trained with the ball and found it good,” she said. “It’s easy to see. Not too different (from the traditional ball) though.”
McGlashan said the ball will add to the excitement playing at Lord’s brings. “The girls are looking forward to it. It’s something different and another cool thing to ad to being at Lord’s.”
The game starts at 9.45pm (NZ time).
