White Ferns to host England this summer

The White Ferns will host powerhouse side England this summer, with the series seeing the two nations square off in the second round of the new ICC Women’s Championship.

Five One Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals will be played in the series, which will be battled out between 11 and 28 February. The opening three ODIs will be played at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, with these matches counting towards Championship points.

The format and venue then change when the series shifts to Whangarei for back-to-back Twenty20s at Cobham Oval on 19 and 20 February. A third Twenty20 and two further ODIs at Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln will conclude the tour.

England last toured New Zealand in 2012 and were convincing victors. White Ferns Coach Hamish Barton said his team was determined to turn that around this time.

“We know England is an incredibly strong side with some of the best players in the world, but that makes the opportunity all the more exciting for us,” said Barton.

“Our aim is to be the no.1 side in the world and to do that we have to beat teams like England. We absolutely believe that if we play to our potential then we can achieve that.”

“The Women’s Championship adds another incentive and come the opening match on 11 of February we’ll be raring to go.”

The first round of the ICC Women’s Championship for the White Ferns will be away in the West Indies starting on 12 September. The team depart for the tour next week.
