White Ferns take series lead

Aimee Mason took four wickets as the White Ferns began their five-match One-Day International series against India at Lincoln’s Bert Sutcliffe Oval with a seven-wicket victory.

The match was reduced to 34 matches apiece after the match was first delayed and then abbreviated by unseasonably wintry weather.

However, the conditions were no obstacle to the Kiwis, and State Central Hinds captain Mason in particular, who took her haul for a cost of just 23 wickets.

The Indians to 117 for eight from their full allocation, but the home team cruised to their target comfortably the first ball of the 23rd over.

Wicketkeeper/opener Rebecca Rolls (45) top scored for the White Ferns, and captain Haidee Tiffen contributed 31 as the team took a 1-0 lead in the series.
