White Ferns Katie Perkins and Liz Perry made an unexpected visit to Bay City Park for the North Harbour qualification round of the NZC National Girl Champion title.
The one day tournament had five year seven and eight girl’s teams in it, all competing to progress through to the next round of the competition to be held tomorrow.
Perkins, who is from the region and came through the same tournament, spoke to the girls about striving for their goals and reminded them that the most important thing was for them to always continue loving their cricket.
The pair were kept busy signing autographs and answering questions by the group of excited future prospects.
“It all starts somewhere and it’s great to see so many enthusiastic kids really embracing women’s cricket,” said Perkins.
“The dream starts when you’re young and it’s important these kids know that it is possible to get to where you want to.”
Their visit came during a day off in their series against the English women who they face in a Twenty20 match on Wednesday.
