Excitement is brewing in the WHITE FERNS camp as they gear up for their second T20 international of a five-match series against the West Indies in Tauranga.
After posting a thrilling eight-run win in the opening encounter on Wednesday the WHITE FERNS are eagerly anticipating a rare match under lights at Bay Oval.
“I don’t think we’ve actually played under lights at home before,” WHITE FERNS all-rounder Sophie Devine said.
“We’ve played a couple of times overseas but I think this must be the first time here which is pretty cool.”
The WHITE FERNS went through a lengthy training session under the lights on Thursday night as they adjust to the different demands the conditions present.
“It was really good for us to get used to how the ball travels up in the air and along the ground and what happens on the dew in the outfield,” Devine said.
Sky Sport will be adding to the occasion by broadcasting the game live in prime time viewing with coverage set to begin from
“Really looking forward to getting out there on TV,” Devine said.
“We’ve always had great support here at Bay Oval, we love playing and training here with the great facilities and it's generally a great place to stay as well.”
It could be an extra special occasion too for Otago Sparks left-
The 18-year old is in line to make her international debut this series as she looks to map out a career in both cricket and netball.
“She’s an awkward sort of bowler, she gets it through really nice,” Devine said.
“She’s a tall lass similar to Hannah Rowe so anyone that has that extra height gets that extra bounce and that makes it awkward in the women’s game.

“She’s settled in well to the group, she’s a bit shy as you would be as a youngster but she’s got some great skills that are going to be of value in the years to come.”
