White Ferns one away from series whitewash

The White Ferns have turned the tables on the Australian Southern Stars after losing the One-Day series 5-0 they now find themselves up 2-0 in the Twenty20 leg of the tour.

They have an unassailable lead and have a chance to make it a clean sweep in today’s final match at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

The White Ferns coach Gary Stead is proud of the way the team has responded but isn’t getting too carried away, "It has taken a real show of character to turn this around after the 50 over matches but the team are realistic and grounded that tomorrow is another day.  It is nice to feel a little bit of momentum swinging back our way however."

He was pleased with the way the senior player have stepped up, "Aimee Watkins has lead from the front in the Twenty20 matches with her batting."

"Yesterday was some of the best death bowling I have ever seen from Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates to restrict Australia."
 
Speaking after yesterdays win, Watkins said, "Any win is nice but it’s good that we feel some success after a tough few weeks." 

"The good thing is we still know there are significant areas of our game that we can make gains so that is exciting for us."

Outstanding viewer ratings for women’s Twenty20

The first Twenty20 match on Sunday 21st February between the White Ferns and Australian Southern Stars drew 519,000 viewers on Australia's channel nine and was the 19th highest rating show for the day.

This is quite an achievement considering they were up competing with the V8 supercars.

There were also 6,000 spectators Bellerive Oval in Hobart.to witness the White Ferns victory.
