The five matches will be played in Adelaide and Melbourne between 10th – 18th February.

The White Ferns selection panel of Gary Stead, Penny Kinsella and Bruce Blair have selected a team that has a mix of experience and youth.

“The selection panel believe it is important to start integrating players into the White Ferns who could play a significant part in the next World Cup,” said coach Gary Stead.  “The development of more International experience, and a wider group of Internationally selectable players, is seen as important.  We believe we have some very exciting young players who will stand up to the test of International cricket against Australia.”

The White Ferns team has three debutants.  Emma Campbell, a leg spinner Natalie Dodd, a top order batsman and Morna Nielsen a left arm spinner. “All three players have been watched carefully over the season.  All three could make an immediate impact in the upcoming series,” said Stead.

The team also features the recall of Maria Fahey into the team after a two year lay off from International cricket with illness.

Rachel Priest and Lucy Doolan have not been selected for this leg of the tour due to injuries and rehabilitation.  They will come back into the team for the T20 matches providing they pass fitness tests.  Previous White Fern, Sarah Tsukigawa was unavailable for the tour and Suzie Bates is playing basketball with the Logan Thunder team in the WNBL.

“The team has 10 players with World Cup final experience from 2009 and we will be learning from some of our past mistakes in trying to become a more consistent and complete team,” Stead said.

White Ferns captain Aimee Watkins said the five new players have had good seasons for their provinces and fully deserve their national call-up.  Four of the five players were also on the recent Emerging Players tour to Australia.

“These are players that we feel have the potential to be real stars in the future,” she said.  “At the moment we are rebuilding with a view to the 2013 World Cup.  We obviously want to win every game we play, but now is a good time to bring fresh talent into the team.  There is no better place to test yourself than against Australia in Australia.”

The White Ferns Twenty20 team has two debutants, Erin Bermingham a leg spinner and hard hitting batsman, and Kate Broadmore, a medium pace bowler and right hand batsman.

White Ferns coach, Gary Stead, said;  “The selection of Erin Bermigham and Kate Broadmore is a direct reflection of their development on the Emerging Players tour to Australia in December.  Both of these girls showed exceptional promise in pressure situations.”

The team also features Suzie Bates return from a basketball contract in Australia.  Rachel Priest and Lucy Doolan have been selected providing they pass fitness tests prior to the tour.

“The White Ferns will play three of the five matches as double-header games on both sides of the Tasman - before the BLACKCAPS v Australia in Christchurch and Wellington and before the Australia v West Indies match in Hobart.  This initiative was important for increasing the profile of the sport.  I know the girls are really excited about it and will put on entertaining matches that will showcase their skills.”
