White Ferns Coach hails world’s best

White Ferns coach Gary Stead has praised the all-rounder Nicola Browne for being named the Women’s Player of the tournament at the ICC World Twenty20 event in the West Indies.

The right arm speedster took 11 wickets during the tournament, including a stunning 4/15 against Pakistan in the early stages of the tournament. She also batted four times, scoring no less than 15 on each occasion.

Stead said it’s fantastic to have Browne named as the Women’s Player of the tournament. "It is wonderful to have a player recognised in such a positive way," Stead said. "She has contributed to our campaign whole-heartedly.”

He recognised her contribution not only in their World Twenty20 tournament, but also during the season gone by. “She has been a key player within our side for a number of seasons and we are looking are forward to seeing more good things from her in the future."

The prize caps a superb year for Browne, who also won the women’s domestic Mitre 10 MVP award.

The White Ferns arrive back in New Zealand next week and have a short break before their tour to England in late June and early July.
