WHITE FERNS and South Africa Making History

The WHITE FERNS will be taking part in an historic match against South Africa tonight.

The rivals will be competing in the 1000th Women’s ODI, 43 years after the first ODI which took place at the inaugural Women’s World Cup in England.

The match is the third in a seven match series between the WHITE FERNS and South Africa, with the first three carrying extra meaning due to International Cricket Council Women’s Championship points being up for grabs.

The third ODI comes at an intriguing time in the series. The second match was taken out by the South Africans, narrowly beating the WHITE FERNS by four wickets. Incredible circumstances led to a WHITE FERNS victory in the first match, with the Proteas losing their last five wickets without picking up a single run.

The 1000th ODI gets underway at 1:30 am early tomorrow morning (NZT), being played at Diamond Oval in Kimberley.

Eighteen nations have taken part in ODIs. England has featured in a record 305 matches, ahead of New Zealand (298) and Australia (292), respectively. The WHITE FERNS’ 147 wins puts them at third place in terms of victories in ODIs, behind Australia and England.
