White Ferns captain Aimee Watkins has been named as one of the sexiest women in sport according to Yahoo!Xtra.
The website selected 64 of the sexiest sports women from around the globe and will be releasing picture galleries of them over the next few weeks, before the public get to vote for their favourite.
Watkins said she found out she was in the latest photo gallery after her mother saw it on Yahoo!Xtra. “She called me and she was very excited!” Watkins said. “I’ve had a few calls from people giving me a hard time, but it’s all good.”
Her husband was also very pleased when hearing the news. “He was like ‘far out that’s awesome’,” she added. “It’s not something you kind of think about. It’s a bit of a novelty.”
Sports Editor from Yahoo!Xtra, Mike Kilpatrick, said he had been following Watkins’ career since he was at university and she seemed like a natural choice for the top 64. “We equally appreciate field talent as much as their looks,” he said. “I consider Aimee one of the foremost talents in women’s cricket. Adding to those on-field talents is a gorgeous smile with piercing eyes, which, frankly, puts some of the more established ‘sexy’ sports stars to shame.
“We should celebrate Kiwi beauty both on and off the park!”
Voting will start to choose the top 10 in the next few weeks and Watkins is hoping the public will get behind her in the same way they do with the White Ferns and show their support. “Jump online and vote all day long! I suppose this is something different, but if it boosts the profile of the White Ferns, then that’s got to be a good thing,” she concluded.
