The WHITE FERNS are determined to deliver a more polished performance when they take on the West Indies in the second ODI at Bert Sutcliffe Oval tomorrow.
Game one of the GJ Gardner Homes series went down to the final delivery with the hosts prevailing in a one-run thriller at the same venue on Sunday.
The WHITE FERNS posted 278-9 from their 50 overs courtesy of a century from Sophie Devine, before keeping the West Indies to 277-9 in reply.
It was Devine’s second century in four ODIs but despite her exploits with the bat she was quick to pinpoint where they need to lift ahead of the next challenge.
“We’ve taken plenty of learnings out of the first game,” Devine said.
“We probably left 30 or 40 runs out there with the bat and then we leaked 15 or 20 runs as well. Against the West Indies you can’t afford to have those sorts of errors.”
Devine wants the WHITE FERNS to set the tone in the field tomorrow after what she described as a rusty effort in the opening game.
“Whenever we pull on the WHITE FERNS shirt you want to be playing at your best ability, and we dropped three or four catches and missed a couple of run-outs too which is really disappointing,” Devine said.
“It’s been a big work on over the last couple of days.”
Despite the highlighted areas of improvement, the WHITE FERNS can secure a series victory with a game to spare should they win tomorrow.
Devine knows it won’t be easy against a quality West Indies side.
“You can never take the West Indies lightly, they’ve got superstars throughout their line-up and it showed even when we got the big names out like Dottin and Taylor, they’re still going hard,” Devine said.
“It’s going to be a ripper of a series and we’re going to have to be on top of our game because they’ll take us to the end.”
Tomorrow’s game will once again be live-streamed on nzc.nz.
