The BLACKCAPS captain talks about the the peformance of the BLACKCAPS, Kane Williamson fine innings and the Bangladeshi crowd.
On today’s performance…
“The difference was we were 80 for five and we put ourselves under so much pressure from there and we have done it every game. That is something we need to rectify before the last game. There is only one game left and we have to make sure we don’t put ourselves in such a dire position. Luckily Kane Williamson played so well to give us a chance but 80 for fivejust really hurts you.”
On the Series so far…
“Our batting has let us down in this series. We haven’t been able to put scores on the board and we have consistently put ourselves under pressure through fantastic bowling from the whole Bangladesh team. They have been outstanding in the field and with the ball and they have really showed us a lesson in these conditions.”

“They know their conditions well, they have got a lot of home games and they have got great crowd support. The crowd was fantastic today and event though we are on the losing side, to be able to play in front of a crowd like that is great for cricket.”
On the upcoming and final match…
“We have got one game left for a little bit of pride. I know everyone back home will be extremely disappointed and everyone in our dressing room will be extremely disappointed. International cricket is about playing off them, we have got to make sure we turn up next game and win.”
“It’s incredibly frustrating, every game you play you play to win and when that doesn’t happen it is disappointing. I know Bangladesh are an improving team but we should still be able to beat them. We should still be coming here and playing better than we have. That’s the most disappointing thing, that we haven’t actually played that well.”
On his personal performance…
“It’s going alright with the ball, its just not working with the bat. Coming up to sixth (in the order) there is a lot of expectations on me and I have let the team down with my performances. You need your captain to lead and that hasn’t happened with the bat.”
On the team performance…
“It International cricket, you are playing for your country and that is what you have to do. You have to pick yourself up and win games every time you play. That is how the team has to think and we have to take a lot of lessons from the way Kane played today, he was amazing and a lot of our more experienced batsmen can really take something from what he did today.”
On preparation for the World Cup…
“It’s still important for us to look at players for that World Cup, we still have to find out who can succeed in these conditions. Obviously we got a great tell from Kane today but there will be guys that keep getting opportunities because that is what we are here for, to win and also to see what the best make up of our team is.”
On the Bangladesh crowd…
“They were fantastic; I think the crowd probably puts more pressure on the Bangladesh team than us. Any time someone blocks three balls they get a little bit upset with them. It’s a great crowd to play in front of and Bangladesh are lucky to have such a vocal crowd.
