The BLACKCAPS captain talks about the loss, the series and the battle they face to turn things around.
On the match…
“It is a terrible result; we are devastated by the result. We know how poorly we have played and the whole dressing room is hurting immensely - particularly this game, we had to come here and win and we had to try and rectify a little bit of the tour. We bowled so well and fielded well, to be 20-5 just put so much pressure on us and we couldn’t quite recover from it.”

On the Series…
“Results-wise we are incredibly disappointed. We haven’t put together anything substantial as a batting unit, every game 20-5, 50-5, 60-5 there is no way you can win games of one-day cricket when you are in that position.”
On the pitch…
“It was a little bit slower than the previous three one-dayers but still 170 was easily gettable.”
On this being a low point for New Zealand Cricket…
“Obviously people are right. This is probably the lowest point for New Zealand cricket in a long, long time. We came here with high expectations, preparation for the World Cup but also trying to win games so to be starring down four – nil is incredibly disappointing and something that will stay with us for a long time and something that we will have to recover from pretty quickly otherwise people will be desolate about New Zealand cricket.”
On the losing 4-0…
“Anyone involved in a Series white-wash, it hurts immensely. I know Bangladesh are considered one of the lowest teams in world cricket but they are definitely on the improve and they definitely play well in their conditions. Whilst I can sit here and say we are incredibly disappointed, Bangladesh should be proud of the way they played and they are certainly a team on the rise. They showed us how to do a lot of the simple things in their conditions and if we don’t learn from this then we are a very poor team. If we can learn from this then hopefully we can bounce back against India and then come back over here for the World Cup and prove that we are a better side than we have showed here.
On Shakib Al Hasan…
“You sit back and say well played to Shakib, he was exceptional throughout the series with bat and ball. If you walk off at the end of the series as highest run scorer and highest wicket-taker you know you have done a fantastic job. I think Bangladesh have one of the best players in world cricket in Shakib.”
On the reason for the team’s performance in Bangaldesh…
“It’s a combination of all (things). Bangladesh are playing very well. You have to give credit for how well they have fielded through out the series, they have out-fielded us in every single game and fielding plays such an important part in the sub-continent and any game of cricket. Its tough out there because its so hot, conditions are different. Bangladesh set the standard and we could never reach what they set.”
On the upcoming tour to India…
“Obviously there are some repercussions to this tour. We are going to have to review it and we have to sit back and see what we need to do to improve. It’s a quick turn around, 10 days so we have to get our heads right as soon as possible and go to India – the form team in world cricket at the moment. For us to come from this result and do well over there is going to be an incredible turn around but something that we have to aspire to.”
