A career-best 74 from Davey Jacobs and a half-century from Ashwell Prince helped the Warriors all but assure themselves a place in the Champions League Twenty20 semi-final.

The home side, chasing a challenging 176 for victory, never looked in danger of losing thanks to an opening partnership of 147 between the pair.

It came after captain Jamie How (88 not out) hit the highest individual score of the tournament thus far to lift the visitors to 175 for three.

But his team were deflated by Jacobs and Prince (64), who raced to 50 inside five overs.

The Stags did themselves few favours by putting down the veteran South Africa batsman - Peter Ingram grassing a dolly at long on off the bowling of George Worker with the opener on 19.

It was a costly miss as the two batsmen continued to build.

Jacobs, the home captain, reached his 50 from 26 balls with his side crossing the 100 mark in just the 10th over.

That was followed by Prince's half-century in 36 deliveries, but more sloppy fielding saw both players again dropped in the 14th over.

Jacobs was eventually out with 29 required from 26, this time Michael Mason managing to hold on in the deep, and the quick wickets of Colin Ingram (one) and Prince gave Central Districts hope.

But Craig Thyssen (18) and Mark Boucher (13 not out) calmed nerves by leading the South African champions over the line with five balls to spare.

Earlier, the visitors were jolted when they lost Ingram for a second-ball duck, but Brad Patton settled in nicely with his captain, who was in ominous form following his 77 in the last game against Victoria.

They shared 64 at 10 an over, before number three Patton departed for 24.

Another quick wicket of Matthew Sinclair (six) threatened to undo the hard work, but Kieran Noema-Barnett had other ideas.

After a slow start where 16 came from his first 17 balls, he then exploded into life and smashed 37 from the next 17 to help the Stags set 176 for victory - a total that proved far too simple for the home side to chase.
