Wagner the wonderful

Neil Wagner has finished up a very successful stint with English county side Lancashire, ahead of the BLACKCAPS upcoming tour of Africa.

The 30-year-old took 32 wickets in division one of the county championship at an average of 29.33, with best figures of 6 for 66. Only team mate Kyle Jarvis and Warwickshire's Keith Barker have taken more in the division so far this season.

"Neil has been brilliant for us," said his captain, Steven Croft.

"He’s one of those guys who always wants to bowl, no matter what the pitch situation. Even if it’s slow and flat, he will come in and try his best.

"We knew what we were getting with him, and he’s not failed with that. He’s literally 110 per cent every game, and he’s been really good for us. He’s not just left-arm, he’s quick and can also bowl middle of the pitch when need be."

Wagner began his stint with Lancashire by returning match figures of 11 for 111 against Nottinghamshire back in April, and has certainly made a splash in North West England.

"Wags is a really good lad to have around," said Croft.

"It’s a shame we haven’t got him for longer, but I don’t think we can complain too much given he’s playing international cricket."

Wagner was equally positive about his time in the English County.

"Time really flies when you are having fun! It has been a absolute pleasure to play for @lancsccc this season! Can't thank everyone enough! Have had an amazing time and made some proper new mates and good memories!! Sad to leave but very excited about what is lying ahead."

Wagner meets up with the BLACKCAPS for a training camp in Pretoria next week, before the team flies to Zimbabwe for two Tests followed by a return to South Africa to play the Proteas in two more Tests.
