Volts seek victory

An eventful day at QEII Park saw two declarations and finished with State Otago Volts hunting victory against State Canterbury Wizards.

Aaron Redmond’s unbeaten 135, and a third-wicket partnership of 180 with Greg Todd (68 not out), helped the Volts to 265 for two before declaring 203 runs short of Canterbury’s total.

Shanan Stewart then hit 97, with Todd Astle (55) and Andrew Ellis (59) also impressive as the Wizards made 234 for three before also opting for an early finish to their innings.

Otago, seeking 438 for victory, were 35 without loss at the end of the third day.
