Lou Vincent got off the mark with at the ICC World Cup with a century against Canada as the BLACKCAPS completed a Group C clean sweep.

Vincent had been dismissed without scoring in the wins over England and Kenya, but made 101 in a 114-run victory over the pool’s wooden spooners.

The State Auckland Aces batsman endured a nervy opening over from Anderson Cummins before unleashing a six over extra cover off the ex-West Indies pace man.

He never looked back, completing his first ODI hundred of the season as the BLACKCAPS posted 363 for seven, their highest World Cup total.

He said: “Three ducks in a row wouldn’t have been a good start to the tournament so I happy with how it turned out.

“Today I was on zero for a couple of overs and I thought one of them was going to have my name on it. Then he pitched one up and I thought I would just swing and hope here and thankfully I hit it.

“The boys have been right behind me. There has been a bit of banter and they have told me just to hang in there and my time will come so thankfully it came today.”

Skipper Stephen Fleming enjoyed a 142-run stand with Vincent, making 66 for a second successive half-century.

He said: “It has been a really good week for us, I am really happy and even today we got put under pressure with the new ball.

“Louie Vincent got some runs – there have been some question marks on him and we’ve come through the week pretty well.”
