Vettori calls for individual improvement

BLACKCAPS captain Daniel Vettori is not making excuses for the teams recent performances and sees room for improvement in all areas.

“It’s relatively simple,” Vettori said when asked why the team aren’t winning.  “I think if you try to dig too deep you get yourself in trouble.

“We failed to post enough runs on the board and we’ve made some mental mistakes with our dismissals and didn’t put enough pressure on India with the ball.

“What we have to do is clear our minds and make sure we are actually performing the relevant things to do and that’s to try and win games for New Zealand.  We will do that by doing the simple things like batting and bowling well.”

India’s top order has been dominant their three straight wins and Vettori acknowledged that the bowling attack hasn’t executed the plans they put in place.

“We bowled with width and if you do that in this part of the world you get hurt,” said Vettori.

“We’ve talked long and hard about bowling straight and putting pressure on the Indian batsmen early because they are playing exceptionally well.”

Asked if Brendon McCullum will keep wickets Vettori said, “We certainly hope so.  His back is giving him a bit of trouble. We will make a decision on him before the game but he is progressing and is getting better so I’m confident he will but am not one hundred percent sure."
