Chris Martin and Stephen Fleming have come into the BLACKCAPS side for the third Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series match at Jade Stadium, Christchurch.
Martin had travelled with the squad as cover for Shane Bond but makes it into the side for the third One-Day International of the summer.
Fleming returns to the squad after surgery and acts as substitute.
Daniel Vettori retains the captaincy despite Fleming’s return. Vettori won the toss and elected to force Australia to bat.
Speaking after the toss, he told BLACKCAPS.co.nz columnist Gavin Larsen on Sky Sport: “We’re going to have a bowl.
“We think the wicket looks good and it’ll probably stay reasonable for the whole time. But we fancy ourselves as a chasing team and we’re going to have a dig.”
As well as gaining revenge for Wednesday night’s last-gasp defeat at Wellington and ending a winless run over Australia, the BLACKCAPS have an added incentive for victory.
Australia may have claimed the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy, but if the BLACKCAPS win they will move up to 109 points in the LG ICC ODI Championship table.
With the cut-off for the ICC Champions Trophy looming on April 1, the side can move level with Sri Lanka and England as the nations chase the top-six ranking which will qualify them for the competition automatically.
For Australia, Cameron White comes into the side in place of Brett Lee. Uncapped left-arm pace bowler Mitchell Johnson is the substitute.
