That was then, this is now - Sinclair

A philosophical Mathew Sinclair is excited about his recall and says that he has a change of perspective has helped him mature as a person and in turn become a better cricketer.

When questioned about his stop/start international career Sinclair replied frankly, “There are a lot of things that have gone on and I want to leave that in the past to be honest.

“I found I put a little bit much pressure on myself. I feel I have changed now, its amazing when you start having a family and when you have an 8 ½ month old child and the sleepless nights and that sort of carry on,”

The prolific Central Stags runs scorer has been in outstanding form for the last two seasons and feels that his call up is deserved, “I’m really enjoying my cricket at the moment, the performances have been there to warrant selection and I feel like I’m in a good head space.”

Sinclair was last years domestic cricketer of the year and overall domestic MVP winner.  He has carried that momentum into this season, averaging a tick under 60 in the Plunket Shield with his last innings of 129 bringing up his 30th First Class ton.

He has been reunited with old Central Stags team mate and coach Mark Greatbatch and is upbeat about the BLACKCAPS set up saying, “I think he just adds postiveness to this environment that is something that is quite encouraging.

“We are working for each other and that’s the key when you want to beat an Australian side. You all have to work together and that’s something that he is really trying to bring into this team and its been great.”

“He has given me a quick wink and nod and saying there could be a possibility that I may well be playing this Test match, depending again on the wicket, what’s happening out there and of course if a batsman breaks down.

Sinclair  is relishing being back in the fold and keen to make the most of the any chances thrown his way, ”I have chatted to some pretty good players in the past and they said you have just got to grab that opportunity.

“There is nothing better than playing against the Australians and doing well against them. Obviously they are a tough team but from my point of view there is one Test match,

“I don’t see it as a do or die thing for me, I’m just going to get out there any enjoy it.I have got nothing to lose.”
