Indian star batsmen Sachin Tendulkar is within range of a world-record 35th Test century after play finally commenced in the rain-ruined first Test against Sri Lanka at Chennai.
The Test began after tea on the fourth day, despite the first three days being called off due to unrelenting heavy rain. India started strongly in the futile match, finishing at stumps on 2-90 after facing 32.3 overs.
Tendulkar, level with Sunil Gavaskar's world record of 34 Test centuries, spent 90 minutes at the crease to finish the day unbeaten on 11.
If the rain defies probability and stays away for the final day of play - light showers are forecasted - Tendulkar will get the opportunity to go for the record.
Chennai has become something of a hunting ground for the Indian pocket-rocket, Tendulkar having scored four centuries in the last six Tests he has played there.
