Taylor sweeps into Test top ten

BLACKCAP Ross Taylor has moved into the top ten on the Reliance Mobile ICC Player Rankings for Test batsmen - a career-best performance for the batsman who's been a consistent performer in the current series against Pakistan.

Taylor, who scored 30 and 97 in the Wellington Test earlier this week, has vaulted eight places to achieve ninth position.

The BLACKCAPS batting star was the biggest mover of all the international cricketers when last weeks rankings came out and has now moved an incredible 15 places in two weeks.

The leap put Taylor one place ahead of South African captain Graeme Smith and three spots above Australian captain Ricky Ponting who falls outside of the top ten for the first time since 2002.

Gautam Gambhir of India leads the batting table with Sri Lanka duo of Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara second and third.

BLACKCAPS strike bowler Shane Bond (8th), Daniel Vettori (13th) and Chris Martin (20th) have retained their places among the top 20 Test bowlers in world cricket.
