Taylor set for BLACKCAPS bow

State Central Stags’ Ross Taylor is set to make his BLACKCAPS debut this week after his promotion to the squad ahead of the final two One-Day Internationals of The National Bank Series against the West Indies.

Taylor, 21, has scored 603 runs in 11 innings in this season’s State Shield for the State Central Stags at an average of 67.

The 2003 New Zealand Cricket Academy graduate has also hit 246 in six State Championship innings this term at an average of 47.

He has career averages of 43 in the limited-overs game and 34.45 in First-Class play, and has taken three First-Class wickets this season with his off-break bowling.

Seamer Kyle Mills is also brought into the squad after covering for Michael Mason in Christchurch.

The duo replaces Jamie How and James Franklin, who have been released from the squad to play in the State Championship.

The BLACKCAPS play the tourists in Napier on March 1 and Auckland on March 5.
