Stephen Cunis: On the road with the White Ferns 2

Canterbury Magicians’ coach Stephen Cunis is on tour with the White Ferns in the UK and www.blackcaps.co.nz will have exclusive discussions with Cunis about the trials and tribulations the White Ferns and their support staff goes through during the next month on the road.

It was a brilliant two days of cricket for the team in the final two Twenty20 games.

Winning at the Rose Bowl and then backing that up with a gutsy win at Hove was absolutely fantastic.

It has been a few years since the White Ferns have won a series against England on English soil so it was a special feeling in the camp after the second victory.

At the Rose Bowl, Suzie Bates and Sarah McGlashan stood out with a century partnership and Sian Ruck bowled superbly to have the English in trouble early.

The English fought back and Amy Satterthwaite in some respects changed the game with tight bowling and we eventually got over the line.

In the final game it was a great team effort and the bowlers and fielders really stood up and took it to England with controlled aggression.

Nicola Browne and Sian Ruck started well and Sophie Devine stepped up and knocked over two key English batsmen to have them in trouble and the girls didn't let up, eventually keeping England 9 runs short of our score.

It was brilliant to see Suzie Bates get the player of the series and as mentioned above, there was a great feel in the camp after the wins. Roll on Ireland on Sunday (Monday NZ time) for what is the first of seven One-Dayers.
