Sri Lanka thrash Ireland

Sri Lanka claimed second place in the ICC World Cup Super Eight table from the BLACKCAPS with a comprehensive defeat of Ireland in Grenada.

Captain Mahela Jayawardene made an unbeaten 39 to complete an eight-wicket win after his bowling attack limited the Irish to 77.

Farveez Maharoof (4-25) and Muttiah Muralitharan (4-19) did the damage as Ireland were dismissed in 27.4 overs.

Maharoof took three wickets in four balls, with five batsmen failing to score.

Sri Lanka dropped two wickets but were back in the pavilion quickly, completing their innings in 10 overs.
