Kirsten Spence took five wickets to help State Otago Volts to their first State League win of the season.
Spence gained her haul at a cost of 36 runs as State Northern Spirit saw their narrow hopes of reaching the State League final disappear after a 52-run home defeat at Hamilton’s WINPAC Oval.
Otago won the toss and batted well, totalling 233 for seven from their 50 overs after a 99-run opening stand from Courtney Winsloe (51) and Megan Kane (64).
ND captain Nicola Browne led the reply with 55, but Spence cut short any Spirit resistance, and they fell to 181 all out.
