Sir John Graham passes away

New Zealand Cricket is saddened by news of the passing of former All Black captain and New Zealand Rugby president, Sir John Graham.

NZC chief executive David White said Sir John would be remembered as not only a tireless supporter of rugby, but a very successful manager of the BLACKCAPS between 1997 and 1999, and a respected member of Auckland Cricket’s Board of Directors.

“Sir John’s contribution to sport in New Zealand has been immense,” said Mr White. “As the manager of the BLACKCAPS in what was a difficult period for New Zealand cricket, he was able to provide the guidance and direction that helped culminate in a rare series win in England in 1999.

“His ability to inspire, and positively influence young athletes made him a great mentor and friend for countless sportsmen and women throughout the country.

“Our thoughts at this time are with his family and friends.”
