Shoaib strikes again

Another clinical bowling performance from Pakistani speedsters Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif has helped the visitors to a crushing seven-wicket victory over England in the second one-day international at Lord's.

With the first match washed out in Cardiff earlier in the week, England was keen to take a series lead before a parochial crowd at the home of cricket.

Akhtar, who missed the Test series with injury, however, was in precarious form as he ripped through the England order to eventually finish with 4-28.

Meanwhile, Asif (2-10) delivered an economical and effective spell to see England struggling for runs before it capitulated to be all out for 166 in 39.1 overs.

Paul Collingwood was the pick of the home side's batsmen with a sturdy knock of 35 as rain saw the match reduced to a 40-over affair.

Rikki Clarke also hit an ODI best 39, while keeper Chris Read contributed to the paltry total with 30.

Following on from its bowlers' brilliant display in the opening innings, the Pakistani batsmen then took up where things had left off as they cantered towards victory.

Jon Lewis (2-11) turned on a commendable performance with the ball but Younis Khan (55) and Mohammad Yousuf (49) ensured success for the visitors.

A quick-fire 42 from embattled skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq then proved to be the icing on the cake as Pakistan took a 1-0 series lead with 20 balls to spare.
