Ruthless bowling destroys Windies

Australia have sounded a warning ahead of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy Series with a ruthless display of bowling on the opening day of the second Test against the West Indies at Hobart.

The Windies crumbled to 149 all out despite winning the toss and electing to bat.

Only a fourth-wicket partnership of 59 between Chris Gayle (56) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (39) was of note as the world champions dominated proceedings.

The Australian bowling figures tell the full story. Glenn McGrath led from the front, claiming four wickets for 31 runs off just 23 overs, while Brett Lee and Stuart McGill took three wickets each.

In reply to the West Indian first innings, Australia were 60 without loss at the close of play. Matthew Hayden (31 not out) and Michael Hussey (23 not out) resume with their team in a commanding position.
