Ross Taylor to undergo surgery

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed that BLACKCAPS captain Ross Taylor will have surgery today following broken ulna he sustained yesterday.

Taylor was struck on the left forearm while batting against South Africa and had to retire hurt on 18.  X-rays confirmed a break and after seeking the opinion of the orthopaedic surgeon it was determined that surgery was the best course of action.

NZC Medical Director Ian Murphy said: “The specialist confirmed that the best management for the fracture of his left ulna would be to undergo surgery.

“This will give him the best opportunity to recover with the actual return date determined by the speed of his recovery from surgery.

“It is not anticipated he will be able to play within the next four weeks but this will depend on how quickly the injury has healed and Ross’s level of comfort.”

Taylor will not be able to take any further part in the current Test match.
