Aaron Redmond scored a half-century and took four wickets as State Otago Volts continued their perfect start to the State Twenty20 with a 46-run win over State Central Stags at Napier.
Redmond’s 59 from only 39 balls dominated the visitors’ opening innings of 167 for nine, justifying skipper Craig Cumming’s decision to bat.
Stags left-armer Ewen Thompson ensured no other Volts batsman scored more than 30 with the competition’s first five-wicket innings.
But Volts leg-spinner Redmond was also in top wicket-taking form, claiming four for 24 to limit the home team’s run chase.
Jamie How made 45 and was the only Stags batsman to tally over 20.
The skipper was ninth man out, with the following last-wicket stand of 23 by Lance Hamilton (10) and Greg Hegglun (13 not out) cut the eventual margin of victory.
