STATISTICS: Milestones and statistics for the Test match between the BLACKCAPS and Zimbabwe at McLean Park, Napier
The BLACKCAPS recorded their largest winning margin in Tests by recording an innings and 301 run victory. This narrowly surpassed the innings and 294 run win, also over Zimbabwe, at Harare in the 2005-06 season.
Zimbabwe's first innings total of 51 is the lowest by them in Tests and also the lowest against New Zealand in Tests. The previous lowest against New Zealand was 59 by Zimbabwe in the Test at Harare in 2005-06. In this Test the BLACKCAPS also bowled Zimbabwe out twice in a day, winning winning inside two days.
Three of the current New Zealand side played in that match, Brendon McCullum, Daniel Vettori and Chris Martin. Of the current Zimbabwe side four played in that match, Brendan Taylor, Tatenda Taibu, Graeme Cremer and Hamilton Masakadza.
New Zealand's total of 495 for 7 declared was their highest against Zimbabwe. In their fifteen Tests against Zimbabwe the BLACKCAPS have now passed 400 on ten occasions.
Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill have now shared five century partnerships against Zimbabwe in all forms of the game in the last year. Two have come in Twenty20 internationals, two in ODIs and now their opening partnership of 124 during this Test.
In scoring 83 runs in the match Brendon McCullum moved past John R Reid and Bevan Congdon into sixth place on the Test career runscoring list. He has now amassed 3,550 runs but is still well short of Daniel Vettori (4,381 runs) one place ahead of him.
BJ Watling scored his maiden century in his seventh Test but just his first as wicketkeeper. He very quickly joined Warren Lees, Ian Smith, Adam Parore and Brendon McCullum as the only New Zealand wicketkeepers to have scored a Test century.
Chris Martin achieved his best bowling figures when finishing with 6 for 26 in the Zimbabwe second innings. This was his tenth five wicket bag and took him level with Chris Cairns on 218 wickets, behind only Sir Richard Hadlee and Daniel Vettori among New Zealand bowlers.
The four catches Dean Brownlie took in Zimbabwe's first innings leaves him behind only Stephen Fleming's New Zealand record of five catches in an innings against Zimbabwe. Fleming has also recorded four catches in an innings against Zimbabwe.
The five catches Brownlie finished with in the match leaves him level with Chris Harris and behind only Stephen Fleming who has the New Zealand record with seven against Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe went into this Test with four possible wicketkeepers in their team. Tatenda Taibu kept wicket in this Test but Regis Chakabva kept during the Test in Zimbabwe in October while both Forster Mutizwa and Brendan Taylor have kept regularly in One Day Internationals.
Three of the Zimbabwean players failed to score a run in this Test, in fact all three finished with more wickets (one) than they scored runs.
Shingirai Masakadza joined his brother Hamilton as the fifth set of brothers to have played Test cricket for Zimbabwe. Auckland's current coach, Paul Strang and his brother Brian are one of the other set of brothers along with the Flower, Ervine and Rennie brothers.
This was New Zealand's first Test win in Napier. Previously they had lost two and drawn seven matches at McLean Park.
