The England Lions bowled the New Zealand Emerging Players for one run less than their first innings score of 278 to take a first innings victory in the two-day match at the Burt Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln.

Former England players Liam Plunkett and Sajid Mahmood led the way with four for 76 and three for 58 respectively.

Plunkett was particularly impressive knocking over four of the top five batsman including batting star from the first match Josh Brodie and BLACKCAP Scott Styris.

Brodie backed up his century from the first game with a well crafted 57 with Greg Hay the only other New Zealand Emerging Player to reach a half century making a swift 60.

England A lost a couple of early wickets in their second innings before Jonathan Trott and Samit Patel both made 41 to see the match out.

The next match of the tour is a test against the New Zealand A in Queenstown beginning on Sunday.
