Papps brings up 700

State Canterbury Wizards opener Michael Papps moved over 700 runs in this season’s State Championship against State Central Stags but could not claim a fourth century of the season.

Papps was dismissed for 86 as Canterbury made 208 for two in reply to Central’s first innings of 460.

The Stags added 85 to their overnight score before losing their four remaining wickets in 36 overs.

Tim Weston made 87 not out, following top order scores by Peter Ingram (159) and Mathew Sinclair (78).

Shanan Stewart, who put on 99 with Papps after replacing Todd Astle (41), was unbeaten at stumps on 56, alongside Andrew Ellis (17 not out).
