New Zealand A openers and Jamie How got their team off to a good start in the third Test against Sri Lanka A at Colombo on a day where the weather dominated.
After heavy overnight rain delayed the start of play until 1.45pm, the Sri Lankans won the toss and sent their opposition in to bat.
Papps (25 not out) and How (20 not out) got the New Zealanders to 49 without loss before an afternoon thunderstorm hit the ground and prevented any further play. Only 13.4 overs had been bowled.
The New Zealand team have dedicated the match to the father of assistant coach Vaughn Johnson, who did not make the tour due to his father's illness and subsequent death. The team had a minute's silence and wore black arm bands.
