Nicol to debut, McCullum to keep

The BLACKCAPS are going to use the two match Pearls Cup series to make full use of their squad.

“We’ve got two games and we are going to give some other guys an opportunity.  Rob Nicol and Aaron Redmond are going to be playing,” said coach Mark Greatbatch from Miami where the team are set to play a two match Twenty20 series.

Their opposition, Sri Lanka, were knocked out in the semi-final of the ICC World Twenty20 by England with the BLACKCAPS exiting after the Super 8 stage.

“It’s obviously an opportunity for us to play again after the disappointment of the World Twenty20 where we didn’t play well enough,” said Greatbatch.

The only injury concern is Gareth Hopkins meaning Brendon McCullum will take the gloves in the first match.

“Gareth Hopkins has a bit of a niggle with his knee so may not play tomorrow in the first game so means that Brendon McCullum will keep wickets for us.  Apart from that we’re pretty fit,” Greatbatch concluded.
