Bangladesh U19s have recorded a six-wicket win against New Zealand U19s at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, today’s victory coming despite a superb century from NZ’s Thomas Zohrab (112) at the top of the order.
Zohrab was the star with the bat for the NZ U19s his gutsy 112 coming off 142 balls against a strong and disciplined Bangladesh attack.
He was supported by the NZ U19 top order with contributions from Ollie White (30) and a cameo from Quinn Sunde (29*) off 21 balls at the end of the innings.
However, the NZ batting effort was matched by the Bangladesh U19 card, Tanzid Hasan scoring a run-a-ball 65 opening up, while number three Mahmudul Hasan Joy (99) was unlucky not to score the second century of the match, falling to a pull shot one short of his milestone.
Jock Mckenzie was the pick of the NZ U19 bowlers with a tidy return of 2-39 from his seven overs, but it wasn’t enough to deny the powerful Bangladesh batting lineup of their second victory in as many games.
The teams now have a few days off before the third one-day match on Sunday October 6, again at Bert Sutcliffe Oval with the match starting at 11am.
