New Zealand Cricket Awards nominees for 2009/10

New Zealand Cricket has announced the nominees for its 2010 Annual Awards.

The Awards, which cover the 2009/10 season, will be presented at The National Bank New Zealand Cricket Awards Dinner at The Langham Hotel, Auckland on Thursday 9 September.

The nominees are:

Redpath Cup
Awarded to the batsman whose performances in men’s First Class cricket have been the most meritorious. [2009 winner: Jesse Ryder]
* Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor, Daniel Vettori

Winsor Cup
Awarded to the bowler whose performances in men’s First Class cricket have been the most meritorious. [2009 winner: Daniel Vettori]
* Graeme Aldridge, Brent Arnel, Daniel Vettori

Walter Hadlee Trophy - batting
For the most meritorious batting by a New Zealand player in One-Day Internationals. [2009 winner: Martin Guptill]
* Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Daniel Vettori                

Walter Hadlee Trophy - bowling
For the most meritorious bowling by a New Zealand player in One-Day Internationals. [2009 winner: Kyle Mills]
* Shane Bond, Kyle Mills, Daniel Vettori

JR Reid Best All Rounder Trophy
Awarded to the best all rounder. The all rounder award covers all forms of cricket and includes wicketkeepers.   [2009 winner: Daniel Vettori]

The Phyl Blackler Cup
Awarded to the bowler whose performances in women's cricket have been the most meritorious.  [2009 winner: Kate Pulford]

The Ruth Martin Cup
Awarded to the batter whose performances in women's cricket have been the most meritorious.  [2009 winner: Haidee Tiffen]

Sir Jack Newman Award
Presented to an outstanding junior cricket administrator in New Zealand each year for past and present services to the game.   [2009 winner: Stephen Jones]

The Bert Sutcliffe Medal
For outstanding services to cricket. [2009 winner: Alan Whimp]

Gillette Young Player of the Year
[2009 winner: Adam Milne]
 
Domestic Player of the Year – men
Awarded to the most outstanding player in men's domestic cricket. [2009 winner: Mathew Sinclair]

Domestic Player of the Year – women
Awarded to the most outstanding player in women's domestic cricket. [2009 winner: Sophie Devine]

The National Bank Player of the Year
Presented to the player whose performances in New Zealand Cricket have been the most outstanding over the last 12 months.  [2009 winner: Daniel Vettori]

Fans Choice for Outstanding Individual Performance

New Zealand Cricket is to introduce a new Fans’ Choice Award for Outstanding Individual Performance at its annual Awards ceremony.

The new award is the result of a recommendation by the panel of cricket experts asked annually to select the nominees and winners of the key Award categories.

Cricket fans are encouraged to vote on their favourite individual performance from the 2009/10 season through www.blackcaps.co.nz/fanschoice and go into the draw to win a trip to the awards evening to present the award.

Nominees for Fans Choice Award:

  • Ross Taylor – Fastest Test century by a BLACKCAP. Second Test against Australia in Hamilton. His century came off 81 balls
  • Shane Bond – Match winning performance against Pakistan in the first Test at University Oval. He took eight for 153 in his first Test since 2007
  • Peter McGlashan – The Northern Knights keeper took a world record 12 catches in a Plunket Shield game against the Central Stags.
  • Brendon McCullum – 116 not out against Australia in the second Twenty20 in Christchurch. His score came off 56 balls and included eight sixes and 12 fours
  • Tim Southee – Death bowling in the second Twenty20 against Australia in Christchurch. He bowled six near perfect yorkers to tie the match before taking one wicket and limiting Australia to six runs in the ‘Super Over”,
