New Zealand Cricket today announced a major new partnership with the YouthTown Trust to fund a national secondary school cricket programme.
The donation from YouthTown will fund the employment of secondary school coordinators in 40 selected schools and was welcomed today by NZC CEO, Justin Vaughan, as a major contributor to the national participation growth strategy.
“The secondary school sector is a vital part of New Zealand Cricket’s participation growth targets,” he said.
“We have developed world-leading programmes for our cricket entrants and early learners for some time. This investment by the YouthTown Trust will allow us to extend quality people and programmes into secondary schools.”
The School Cricket Coordinators will target the improvement of game organisation, profile, and the retention of players at and beyond school in select schools of cricketing importance.
“This funding will contribute to the resourcing of a dedicated cricket resource in schools across the whole country,” said Vaughan.
“Good people, with time and programmes, will make a huge difference to the recruitment and retention of cricketers both within and beyond secondary schools. It is a very exciting programme to be able to support,” he said.
