The new kit will be debuted in this Sunday's T20

New look for WHITE FERNS

New Zealand’s WHITE FERNS will sport a new look magenta pink T20 uniform when they step out onto Hagley Oval in the first Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka this Sunday.

Designed in conjunction with the players themselves, it’s the first time New Zealand’s elite women cricketers have created their own playing identity, after having co-designed the distinctive uniform with New Zealand Cricket and Canterbury of New Zealand.

The kit remains consistent with the overall design of the instantly identifiable New Zealand brand of the BLACKCAPS T20 uniform, with the new colour panel — magenta pink — selected by the WHITE FERNS team.

“We understand it’s the first time magenta has been used in international cricket and we’re really excited about debuting a colour that is our own,” said captain Suzie Bates.

“It’s going to be something that is not only unique to the WHITE FERNS, but a statement that women’s cricket in New Zealand has its own identity and brand — one that we believe is strong and will stand out on the world stage.”

New Zealand Cricket CEO Mr David White said New Zealand Cricket was delighted to support the concept.

“The WHITE FERNS are one of the world’s top women’s teams and have gone from strength to strength this year.

“They have won their first trophy in India — regarded as one of the world’s most challenging places to win a series. Sophie Devine has smashed the world record for the fastest T20 fifty (18 balls) and they have just achieved two 10-wicket victories in one series over Sri Lanka.”

Mr White said one of the key priorities in NZC’s new strategic plan was recognising and celebrating the contribution of women.

“The WHITE FERNS are an inspiration for all New Zealand cricketers, and especially for girls and young women aspiring to get involved in the game.

“New Zealand Cricket is totally committed to backing women’s cricket, and hand in hand with that is making sure the WHITE FERNS have a strong, instantly recognisable presence on the world stage.”

A limited number of the new replica shirts, and new magenta and black replica playing caps, will be available to purchase in February, when the WHITE FERNS will take on world number ones the Australian Southern Stars in New Zealand for the ODI Rose Bowl and a Twenty20 International series.

“We encourage every sports-loving New Zealander follow the WHITE FERNS on social media and to sign up (free) for MyBLACKCAPS to keep up with the growth of women’s cricket and see for themselves the new heights our top cricketers are reaching.”

New Zealand cricket supporters can check it out at 2pm this Sunday with free entry to the WHITE FERNS’ first Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka at Hagley Oval.
