New family friendly zones to be introduced at ODIs

New Zealand Cricket has launched an initiative to improve the experience of families at international cricket matches.

“Poor crowd behaviour from small but vocal sections of the crowd at one-day international matches is turning some families away from the cricket,” NZC Chief Executive Martin Snedden said.

“We recognise that this is a serious issue and have looked at ways to ensure that mums and dads can feel safe taking their children to matches.

“This year we are introducing special family friendly zones at all one-day matches.

“These zones, known as the National Bank Neighbourhood, will have dedicated security hosts and drunkenness and bad behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Our marketing team have come up with special family pricing and kids’ packs for families in the zone.

“The National Bank Neighbourhood is not just for families. Anyone who wants to enjoy a quieter time at the cricket can sit there.

“We recognise that parents may wish to enjoy a drink and alcohol will be allowed within the zones. But bad behaviour will not.

“We will also have Export GoldZones, which will be well away from the National Bank Neighbourhood. These zones will cater for those people looking for a party experience at the cricket.”
