Central Districts batsman Bronson Meehan struck a century as the home team made 329 for seven against early leaders Auckland on the third day of the National Under-17 Tournament at Napier’s Nelson Park.
Batting first, CD started slowly the first 50 runs coming up in the 26th over.
However, Meenan dominated the innings to guide his side out of trouble, before caught out at midwicket for a very well compiled innings spanning 298 balls.
Otago’s Michael Bracewell made 105 as they put on 222 against Wellington.
Bracewell led his side with a hundred from 115 balls hitting 13 fours and six, controlling a 69-run partnership for the seventh wicket which helped Otago over the 200 mark.
Wellington in reply was 21/3 before, moving to 74 without further loss at stumps, needing a further 149 runs to secure first Innings points.
Canterbury won the toss against Northern Districts and elected to bowl.
The decision proved wise, as ND was dismissed for 176, although they recovered from 76/6 soon after lunch.
However, the Canterbury was not fluent, and stood at 68/4 at the end of the day’s play.
